The same is true with all these youtube videos saying Diablo Immortal "is the worst" because, just like playing the game is boosting the games engagement metrics, so are these videos. They say there's no such thing as bad press after all. Not releasing the game in certain countries where their lootboxes are illegal, for example, probably "hyped" their game up more than anything else because it became mainstream news. To a certain extent, the more people that call them out on this the more press the game will get. The unfortunate reality is that Blizzard will make way more money off this game with these predatory microtransactions than they ever would have selling it for full price. Since it's kinda like an MMO - would anyone have bought the game for $40 and paid a $15 monthly subscription, ala World of Warcraft? No?
Honest question, but would anyone have bought this game on mobile or PC if it was full price ($70) - assuming it was "content complete" like Diablo 3? I doubt it, outside of a few hardcore fans.
